Monterey Car Auction Preview: Vintage Ferraris, a Steve McQueen Hudson, and a Classic Bentley Go on the Block

Auctions this year concurrent with Pebble Beach and the historic races at Laguna Seca might have a theme: Ferrari berlinettas of the 1950s and early 1960s. Star of this year’s Bonhams Quail Lodge auction is this 1959 Ferrari 250 GT Competizione, chassis 1519GT, fitted with its original engine (see below). It came home third overall in the 1959 Tour de France. A two-year restoration was completed in 2014, with certification by Ferrari Classiche. The car has been displayed at the 2014 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este and the Goodwood Festival of Speed. At the 2015 Cavallino Classic, it received the Ferrari Club of America Platinum award. Last year’s record auction price, set by a Ferrari GTO, will not be approached, but this car could reach as high as $12 million, perhaps more.
