NEJM Responds to Allegations Its Correspondent Reported Confidential, Inaccurate Patient Information

The subject of a recent New England Journal of Medicine essay claims that its physician author traded on inside information about the subject's cancer care that she obtained in her position as a cardiologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital, where some of the cancer treatment occurred. A HIPAA complaint has been filed, along with demands for retraction, apologies, and threats of further legal action. My take? The controversy comes down to an unfortunate disagreement about how to interpret five words.
