Banned Drug Sharapova Took Is Widely Used, Study Shows, Despite Little Evidence That It Boosts Performance

A new study found that approximately one in every 11 athletes tested at the 2015 European Games was positive for the drug meldonium, which was added to WADA's list of prohibited substances on Jan. 1 of this year. On Monday, tennis star Maria Sharapova announced that she had failed an Australian Open drug test because she had tested positive for meldonium.
